ABC OF HEALTH

The following could help you to Head to Toe Health!

APPEARANCE
Ladies and gents did you know that having your hair restyled you could look 10 years younger? A good cut can help the hair grow and remain healthy.

Have you had your eyes tested recently? Squinting can cause wrinkles, headaches, tired sore eyes...an eye test may show that you need glasses or
just need to take more breaks from close work and the VDU screen. Research indicates there are many drivers out there that have not had recent tests and require corrective glasses.
Did you know exercise is good for the complexion? Also the Steam room and Sauna. They all help to encourage the skin to work properly. (Check with sports centre staff before you use any facilities to ensure you are medically fit).

Did you know that research is beginning to show that there may be a link between poorly maintained teeth (dental bacteria) and damage to the heart? A regular check up and regular mouth care will reduce sore throats; stomachs upsets, and enable you to keep your gums healthy and your own teeth longer. Ideally teeth should be checked every six months and a Hygienist visit every 3 months. Using an anti-plaque mouthwash can manage bacteria effectively and reduce the build up of plaque that can irritate the gums. Toothbrushes should be changed at least every 3 months, or more often.

BODY
Did you know drinking water could prevent headaches, fatigue and lethargy? Try it next time you feel tired top up your water and see the difference it can make. We should all drink at least 6 to 8 large glasses of water per day.(at least one litre daily, more if possible).

Coffee is a drug and should be treated as such, too much can make you feel jittery! So limit your intake or try decaf.

Aim to eat a balanced diet, not too much fast food. Include vegetables and fruit in your diet as much as you can.

Limit Alcohol use, it is a depressant, you feel great while your using it, but problems appear much worse in the morning!

CIRCULATION
Did you know that 20 minutes exercise per day of any sort, housework, walking, swimming -enough to raise your heart rate- will improve your circulation and raise endorphin levels...making you feel and look great!

Spending just 20 minutes per day on a gentle exercise regime can increase your productivity and concentration.

Computer users did you know that change of tasks and rest breaks can make you more productive? Short breaks enable you to change posture and increase circulation to your arms and brain.

Did you know that aqua aerobics is extremely good for those of us that have hip, leg problems which prevent us from using other forms of exercise. Did you know that what exercise you do in the water is worth x 2 that you do in the gym, but is none weight bearing.

Sitting for long periods of time can cause problems to the circulation in your legs. Exercise can help your circulation before you travel, on the train, in an aircraft or in the car. Frequent changes of posture, from sitting to standing and walking during the journey or whilst you break a car journey is most beneficial to your circulation.

Visiting a Chiropodist is usually seen as something reserved for us when we are elderly, treat yourself and feel the difference it can make to your feet. Correct advice about foot and nail care is essential at any age.

Try these suggestions and let us know how you feel!
